The transformation of Haz Mincing Lane into an elegant fine dining space saw Mailen Design playing a crucial role in bringing our partner I-AM’s vision to life. Design philosophy

Haz Mincing Lane seamlessly blends luxury and comfort by integrating traditional Turkish elements within a contemporary framework. Conceived by I-AM, the design aimed to create a visually engaging and welcoming space that reflects the rich cultural heritage of Turkey while meeting the expectations of modern diners. Mailen Design’s role was to ensure that this vision was brought to life with precision, balancing the intricate design details with practical considerations to craft a restaurant environment that is both functional and impactful. This collaboration showcases our commitment to leading the construction and delivery of high-quality spaces that resonate with the design intent and enhance the overall dining experience.

Sustainability

Sustainability was a core consideration in the design of Haz Mincing Lane. We integrated energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems to reduce the restaurant's environmental footprint, while the use of durable materials was carefully selected to ensure longevity and minimise maintenance. These choices not only contribute to a comfortable and efficient dining environment but also reflect our commitment to environmentally responsible design.

Challenges and solutions

Transforming a casual dining venue into an upscale restaurant presented unique challenges, particularly in integrating modern amenities while preserving the original character. To achieve this, we employed a sophisticated material palette—timber, plaster, copper, and marble—that introduces warmth and elegance without compromising on functionality. The undulating ceiling, inspired by the flowing forms found in traditional Turkish architecture, not only adds visual interest but also helps to define different areas within the restaurant. The design is further enriched by the strategic use of vibrant colours, drawing inspiration from traditional Turkish motifs to create a dynamic and immersive environment.

Outcome

The transformation of Haz Mincing Lane has garnered significant recognition, most notably winning the Best London Restaurant award at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards. Our role in executing I-AM’s vision was pivotal, leading the construction process to ensure that their innovative design was realised with precision and attention to detail. The design revitalised the business, resulting in increased footfall and a significant uplift in sales. By improving spatial flow and enhancing the overall dining environment, we created a space that not only elevated the customer experience but also optimised operational efficiency. This project underscores our ability to lead the delivery of complex designs, aligning architectural excellence with the client’s business goals for a commercially successful outcome.
