Ben formed Mailen Design in 2010 to implement his experience and passion for Architecture, Interior, and Urban Design into a variety of projects across numerous scales and locations. After gaining a First Class Honours degree from Northumbria University he continued his studies at the prestigious Architectural Association, and The Bartlett, University College London, qualifying as an Architect in 2006. He gained numerous awards throughout his time in academia and quickly sought to build upon his success within professional practice. During his time as an Architect in a number of large award-winning design practices, he was responsible for leading teams on major regeneration projects in the healthcare, education, and commercial sectors.
Ben has a passion for careful detailing and enthusiasm for the integration of contemporary additions to historic sensitive buildings and landscape contexts. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team and has been personally responsible for the delivery of numerous award-winning buildings and spaces. Always keen to explore new ideas he is regularly involved in Architectural education and has held design tutoring posts at Northumbria, the Architectural Association, and South Bank universities.
Ben has a hands-on approach to life, personally completing the refurbishment of his own 17th Century Listed Manor house, is a keen runner, has taken part in numerous marathons, and summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
