Alex joined Mailen Design following the development of his qualifications whilst working for DLG Architects for 5 years.Subsequently he brings a wealth of job running experience of real world schemes gained alongside his academic education. His role in the practice allows him to combine his design skill and talent alongside organisational expertise.

Alex has worked on a large number of projects within the UK, ranging from residential schemes of between 9 and 1000 apartments, community centers, cafes and schools for excluded pupils from mainstream education. He enjoys working within small teams on large master planning projects as well as communicating with clients, contractors and specialist sub

contractors on smaller projects where he has acted as project leader.

Whilst at DLG Architects Alex led the project team delivering a large build-to-rent residential scheme in Crawley. The scheme for a nationwide BTR developer included 182 units along with associated ground floor amenities and commercial units. Within this leading role he managed a team of revit technicians and architectural assistants to maximise the efficiency of the building as well as designing an attractive massing under tight financial restrictions.

His design interests lie in the exploration into how sensory information can be entwined within design work by considering architecture as more than a visual environment, considering the benefits of the haptic tactile element of craftsmanship.

Outside the studio you can find Alex playing hockey to a high standard enjoying the competitive and teamwork elements of the sport.
