Extension and extensive refurbishment of family home in Warwickshire

This already sizeable home sits within several acres of beautiful mature landscape on the edge of a village north of Coventry. Whilst being large, the existing property suffers from an uncomfortable relationship with the external surroundings and doesn't capitalise on the light views and aspects provided by the surrounding context. The state of external fabric is poor with roughcast cement render wrapping the whole building and UPVC windows scattered across a confusing series of forms.

The proposal include for the existing volume to be extensively repaired and rough cast cement render replaced with modern intelligent render systems, and all windows replace with dark aluminium frame units. A quiet extension to the side of the property provides extra guest accommodation for the client's extended family, sensitively combined with the existing house.

An external ground floor extension to the rear brings order and proportion to the large open ground floor social space with large glass sliding doors connecting to the landscape and pond. The new brickwork volume creates a large first floor terrace and is finished in a lime slurry to blend the new build into the existing volume. The expanse of glazing is articulated using a long stone lintel and freestanding columns.

Construction due in Autumn 2020
